Berawal di akhir abad ke 19, perkembangan ketenagalistrikan di Indonesia mulai ditingkatkan saat beberapa perusahaan asal Belanda yang bergerak di bidang pabrik gula dan pabrik teh mendirikan pembangkit listrik untuk keperluan sendiri.

Antara tahun 1942-1945 terjadi peralihan pengelolaan perusahaan- perusahaan Belanda tersebut oleh Jepang, setelah Belanda menyerah kepada pasukan tentara Jepang di awal Perang Dunia II.

Proses peralihan kekuasaan kembali terjadi di akhir Perang Dunia II pada Agustus 1945, saat Jepang menyerah kepada Sekutu. Kesempatan ini dimanfaatkan oleh para pemuda dan buruh listrik melalui delegasi Buruh/Pegawai Listrik dan Gas yang bersama-sama dengan Pimpinan KNI Pusat berinisiatif menghadap Presiden Soekarno untuk menyerahkan perusahaan-perusahaan tersebut kepada Pemerintah Republik Indonesia. Pada 27 Oktober 1945, Presiden Soekarno membentuk Jawatan Listrik dan Gas di bawah Departemen Pekerjaan Umum dan Tenaga dengan kapasitas pembangkit tenaga listrik sebesar 157,5 MW.

Pada tanggal 1 Januari 1961, Jawatan Listrik dan Gas diubah menjadi BPU-PLN (Badan Pimpinan Umum Perusahaan Listrik Negara) yang bergerak di bidang listrik, gas dan kokas yang dibubarkan pada tanggal 1 Januari 1965. Pada saat yang sama, 2 (dua) perusahaan negara yaitu Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) sebagai pengelola tenaga listrik milik negara dan Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) sebagai pengelola gas diresmikan.

Pada tahun 1972, sesuai dengan Peraturan Pemerintah No.17, status Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) ditetapkan sebagai Perusahaan Umum Listrik Negara dan sebagai Pemegang Kuasa Usaha Ketenagalistrikan (PKUK) dengan tugas menyediakan tenaga listrik bagi kepentingan umum.

Seiring dengan kebijakan Pemerintah yang memberikan kesempatan kepada sektor swasta untuk bergerak dalam bisnis penyediaan listrik, maka sejak tahun 1994 status PLN beralih dari Perusahaan Umum menjadi Perusahaan Perseroan (Persero) dan juga sebagai PKUK dalam menyediakan listrik bagi kepentingan umum hingga sekarang.

Diakui sebagai Perusahaan Kelas Dunia yang Bertumbuh kembang, Unggul dan Terpercaya dengan bertumpu pada Potensi Insani.

Penerimaan Karyawan Adhi Karya Persero:

Kiprah ADHI dimulai sejak 11 Maret 1960 saat Menteri Pekerjaan Umum menetapkan Architecten-Ingenicure-en Annnemersbedrijf “Associatie Selle en de Bruyn, Reyerse en de Vries N.V.” (Associatie N.V.), salah satu perusahaan milik Belanda yang dinasionalisasi, menjadi PN Adhi Karya. Nasionalisasi ini ditujukan untuk memacu pembangunan infrastruktur di Indonesia.


Status ADHI berubah menjadi sebuah Perseroan Terbatas pada tanggal 1 Juni 1974 dan telah mendapatkan pengesahan dari Menteri Kehakiman. ADHI 100% dimiliki oleh Negara Republik Indonesia sampai pada akhir tahun 2003 saat Negara Republik Indonesia melalui Menteri Negara BUMN, selaku Kuasa Pemegang Saham, melepas 49% kepemilikannya atas saham ADHI untuk ditawarkan kepada masyarakat melalui Initial Public Offering (IPO). Keputusan tersebut diikuti oleh pendaftaran saham ADHI di Bursa Efek Jakarta (sekarang BEI) yang sekaligus menjadikan ADHI sebagai BUMN konstruksi pertama yang terdaftar pada bursa.

Dalam kegiatan operasionalnya. ADHI didukung oleh sembilan divisi yang tersebar di seluruh Indonesia dan Luar Negeri. Dimana beberapa divisi diarahkan sebagai divisi spesialis, yaitu spesialis gedung, spesialis infrastruktur dengan teknologi tinggi, dan spesialis EPC.

ADHI mengelompokkan proyek-proyek Jasa Konstruksi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu:

1. Proyek Infrastruktur

Terdiri dari proyek-proyek infrastruktur seperti jalan dan jembatan, pengairan, pembangkit listrik, pelabuhan, dan lain-lain.

2. Proyek Bangunan

Terdiri dari pekerjaan-pekerjaan yang berhubungan dengan gedung bertingkat seperti hotel dan perkantoran; pembangunan fasilitas umum seperti rumah sakit dan sekolah; bangunan komersial; perumahan; kawasan industri dan manufaktur; pekerjaan mekanikal dan elektrikal pada gedung dan industri, transmisi kelistrikan dan gardu induk, otomatisasi bangunan, pembangkit listrik, tata udara dan tata suara, radio, telekomunikasi, dan instrumentasi serta pemipaan.
